Discussion on Cost Accounting Methods for Fresh Fish Fillet Processing
User Ravi posted for the first time in the community, seeking cost accounting methods for a manufacturing client engaged in fresh fish fillet processing. The client manually processes raw fish into fillets and needs to handle the raw materials within 2 days. Ravi considers using Excel to assist with accounting and mentions that the client uses the basic version of Peachtree accounting software.
Hello, fellow professionals!
This is my first post in this community, but I must admit that this is a professional community with an excellent atmosphere and ample knowledge sharing.
One of my clients is engaged in the procurement of fresh fish and subsequently processes them into fillets. This process relies on manual operations for about 90% of the work. After processing, the products are packaged and stored as inventory. In short, their business chain is: raw fish enters inventory, undergoes manual handling, and ultimately results in finished fish fillets.
Given that this client falls within the manufacturing sector, I am seeking professional advice on how to perform cost accounting for the finished fish fillets.
I have convinced the client to complete processing within 2 days after raw materials arrive, so I believe that at this stage there is no need to allocate costs or assess the value of raw materials or work-in-progress (WIP). Additionally, the client currently uses the basic version of Peachtree accounting software, but its functionality is quite limited, so I may need to use Excel to complete the cost accounting work.
I look forward to your valuable opinions. Thank you in advance!
