On LinkedIn, a debate about the boundaries of brand marketing is heating up—and surprisingly, LinkedIn itself has not yet been drawn into the center of the storm.

The controversy began with the CEO of the clothing brand Bikini Luxe, who chose LinkedIn as the channel to promote her swimwear line. The posted images showed women in bikinis in direct poses. This immediately raised two questions: first, whether using LinkedIn as a platform for marketing such products is appropriate; and second, whether these photos constitute objectification or belittlement of women.

Needless to say, the incident has attracted significant attention and has now come into the view of the Proformative community.

Suppose you are part of the Bikini Luxe executive team. At the following points in time, what advice would you give:

  • At the start of the marketing campaign?
  • When the heated debate first began to emerge?
  • When the controversy fully erupted?

If you are not yet familiar with this debate, you can type "Bikini Luxe" into the LinkedIn search bar and select "Posts" from the dropdown menu on the left to view it.
